Wilson’s Mills High Names First Head Football Coach
WILSON’S MILLS, N.C. — Wilson’s Mills High School, scheduled to open this fall, has named the first head football coach in the school’s history.
Brent Bailey, a Johnston County native who grew up in the Archer Lodge area, will lead the new football program at the school located in Wilson’s Mills.
Bailey most recently served as head football coach at Cedar Ridge High School in Orange County, where he spent the past three seasons focusing on rebuilding the program and increasing student participation. During his tenure, the number of players in the program grew from 22 to more than 50.
Before his time at Cedar Ridge, Bailey was the offensive coordinator and associate head coach at Bunn High School in Franklin County.
Bailey also spent five years at Clayton High School from 2016 to 2021, where he served in several roles including wide receivers coach, junior varsity offensive coordinator and later varsity offensive coordinator.
Bailey said the opportunity to start a program from the ground up is what attracted him to the position.
“I like the idea of a challenge,” Bailey said. “It’s exciting to watch something take shape and grow as the program develops.”

I don’t think he won a game in his 3 years as a head coach.
1 win, 29 lost. why do you hire someone this bad?
He will do a good job and give it all he’s got. He’s worked hard for 3 years to build up a team an hour from home, and now has a chance to be local. This was a great hire by the school.
Please don’t leave negativity in the comments. Have you ever seen the movie, We are Marshall?” Starting a program from the ground up takes passion, and I wish him all the best!!!!
Thank you Nicki Lee, I agree!
