BENSON – A Johnston County woman has been arrested after she reportedly shot a man through the entry door to a home. Authorities said the incident appears to be domestic related.

Latashia Little, age 48, of the 3200 block of Wilson’s Mills Road, Smithfield was charged with attempted first degree murder and discharging a firearm into occupied property.
Around 6:42pm Tuesday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Heirloom Court, off Zack’s Mills Road, outside of Benson.
Authorities allege Little went to the address, and while standing outside, fired several shots from a handgun through the door. One of the bullets struck the victim who was inside the closed door.
The victim, a 51 year-old Clayton man, was rushed to Wake Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the arm. The injury was considered to be serious but non-life threatening, authorities told The Johnston County Report.
Little was not on the scene when officers arrived but was located a short distance away and taken into custody.
Little was held without bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
Well, I wonder if that was worth her losing her freedom for a long time. Stupid is as stupid does.
Fellas, dont shack up with crazy!
Another reason some people shouldn’t be able to own a gun.
I know them , she should have never been sold a gun
Go ahead and judge. I see glass house shattering. Instead of your useless comments get active and change the laws that allow things like this to happen.
@Dawn, I’m sure you’ll be the first to jump right into changing the laws.
I think we should be allowed to carry with or without a permit. I do and will..
Does anyone have any idea why this bad thing even happened?? Cause I’m shocked
Can anyone tell why this happened beside something dealing with you opinion on gun laws.
If it was domestic related – my guess is someone made the other one mad – like really mad and upset. Did it warrant someone getting shot – not enough to go on from the article.
There are circumstances that have happened locally and people will comment on here that they would have “taken care of that person themselves” or “they would have never made it to court” meaning they would handle the situation themselves probably by doing what this lady did. I am NOT saying this is what happened with this couple – just I have seen our own commenters play tough guy/gal and say what they would do to someone in certain (really bad) situations.
Bad relationships, hot tempers and firearms/or weapon of choice are never a good combination. Throw in some drinking or drugging and all heck breaks loose.
I knew of her seen her out and spoke to her, just doesn’t seem like shooting someone is something she would do. I just get it .
Get em girl. Now she won’t playing
straight through the door. Come out come out wherever you are….ding dong
Wild how bond amounts vary in this county. Some charged with similar crimes—where the victim actually died—have walked free on much lower bonds. How does that make sense? A life was taken, yet the consequences don’t reflect the severity. Do better for the victims and their families, JOCO.
The reason she was held without bond is it was a domestic related altercation. Anything you go to jail for that is stamped domestic you do not get a bond as a Magistrate can not set the bond unless 48 hours have passed, like you get arrested on Friday afternoon and court isn’t until Tuesday because of a holiday, then a Magistrate can set a bond. That person must go before a District Court Judge to have their bond set in normal cases. Understanding how the system works takes some of the confusion out, but I do agree people charged with murder shouldn’t get out on a low bond.
The case I have in mind was also domestic-related, with similarities to the crime this woman was charged for. The person charged had already been indicted before their bond hearing. They didn’t initially receive bond but were granted one a few months later and are now free while awaiting trial.
I should add that I checked the court records, and the woman in this story was granted a $500,000 secured bond on 02/05/2025. As of today, she is still in jail.
Well honestly she should be for that , it could have been worse . But like to know more than just a domestic violence case like was she there defending children was she there defending herself something bad had happened I mean, there’s a story behind every case. I’d love to know the story. I don’t presume anybody guilty of anything until I know the story. But She isn’t out from what I understand because her dad is the only one that can get her out and he’s in Hawaii so you can’t get out if you ain’t got nobody to post your bond, but I would love to know what’s going on before I make a choice or a decision in an opinion on my own.
And I’m truly sorry and will pray for the family , I was just saying that they haven been before a bond hearing v yet , I was in law enforcement a small bit and yes she’ll probably get bond . This whole world isn’t for The truth or the true victims. You’d be so surprised to know what goes on in their houses too. But ppl don’t speak up cause nobody cares to help. I am truly sorry for the ppl you know and may God give them some peace .
Do we know if first appearance? Cause of the fact it’s only been a few days she isn’t going to have a bond yet so we can’t compare it to any other case yet. I pray the families that lost their love ones to find some peace and justice is given .
Do better for victims. Who lost their life? She shot the dude in the arm
You are making a argument against something that is a moot point if they don’t let her out after getting the bond hearing. Then raise h*ll over it, cause I agree but if she hasn’t been before a bond hearing then we don’t know if she is going to get Bond or not. I would also like to know what this story is more about cause the ones I’ve seen get bail after committing murder wasn’t the same for sure, these families deserve better. But know the facts b, I’m asking to learn and it’s a obvious thing she hasn’t been in front of the judge yet for bond. Cause if she has and they ae out and she isn’t this world is screwed!!!!!
According to court records, she was granted a $500,000 secured bond on 02/05/2025. As of today, she is still in jail.
Sorry for the confusion. It’s a different local case. I checked the court records and saw this woman was granted a $500,000 secured bond and is still in jail. In the case I was referring to, the victim died, yet the person accused received a much lower bond in the same county.
Anyone have any new news on why she did this beside DV, because she was divorced several times and had a guy she was engaged to. SO which one and wth happened
