89 Year-Old Passenger Dies From Injuries Sustained In US 70 Accident

PRINCETON – The State Highway Patrol has confirmed the death of passenger involved in a collision on US Highway 70 near Princeton.

At approximately 12:12pm Tuesday, troopers said Kenneth Burnette, 56, of Mount Airy, NC was traveling eastbound in a pickup truck towing a boom lift. The boom lift detached from the pickup, traveled through the median, and struck two vehicles traveling westbound.

A total of 5 people in the two westbound vehicles were injured. The Highway Patrol confirmed today (Thursday) one of the victims, 89 year-old Carlene Brodie of Goldsboro died from her injuries. Brodie was a front seat passenger in one of the car hit by the lift.

The Highway Patrol’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is now assisting with the investigation.

At this time, speed, alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a contributing factor.

Troopers said the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office has been notified about the fatal accident for possible future charges, pending completion of their investigation.
