ANGIER – Angier Town Commissioner George “Jr.” Price resigned from his post on the town’s board at 8:59 a.m. Aug. 24, citing health concerns.
“I have thought long and hard about continuing to serve as a Commissioner in the town of Angier,” Price wrote in a post on Facebook that day. “In the past month or so I have had to deal with some Health issues and it’s all under control now. But stress between my job and the Town is overpowering.”
Price was appointed to Angier’s Board of Commissioners to fill a vacant seat in January 2021. He won election to continue his service that November and has also served on the town’s ABC board and planning board. He resigned from the ABC board on July 17, according to Angier Town Manager Elizabeth Krige.
The board has not announced what will happen with Price’s vacant seat.
“The Board of Commissioners could choose to appoint someone to the vacant seat or leave the seat vacant until the November election,” Krige said.
Price represented the town’s fourth ward.
“I have enjoyed working for the people on the Angier Planning Board, Angier ABC Board, and the Board of Commissioners. But it’s time for me to move on,” he said in his Aug. 24 post. “It’s not been easy to serve and the challenges that you are faced with is tough. But I can promise you I did my best and always had Angier’s best interest at heart. As a sitting Commissioner I couldn’t speak as I wanted to about issues we are having in town. There is so much I know that you aren’t allowed to know but as a private citizen that will change.”
