Couple Charged With Sexual Servitude Of Child

A couple who fled from Johnston County has been extradited from California to stand trial on sex charges.

Zuammett Velasco, 41, and her husband, Gamaliel Hernandez, 30, of Barnes Road, Middlesex were returned to Johnston County last week. They are being held on a $600,000 secured bond in the Johnston County Jail.

On August 20th, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault involving a female victim under age 18.  Authorities said the victim went to her mother’s residence. While at the home, alleged sexual activity occurred between the victim and her stepfather.   Detectives allege the mother had knowledge of the sexual activity.

Before Velasco and Hernandez could be arrested they fled from Johnston County.  They were located in Indio, California and arrested on warrants from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Velasco and Hernandez are charged with second-degree forcible rape, second-degree forcible sex offense and sexual servitude of a child victim.
