Firefighters Extricate Two People From Overturned Pickup

SMITHFIELD – Smithfield firefighters extricated two people from an overturned pickup before they were rushed to the hospital.

Smithfield Police, Smithfield Fire and Johnston County EMS responded to the collision at 11:45am Monday on Buffalo Road at M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.

According to an accident report, Zeddie Sapp Jr. of Smithfield was operating a 2019 Ford pickup eastbound on M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway, and attempted to make a left turn to travel north of Buffalo Road. He turned into the path of a 2014 Honda SUV, driven by Patricia Allen Rogers of Four Oaks, traveling westbound on M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection causing the pickup to overturn, trapping Sapp and a passenger inside.

Firefighters used extrication tools to remove the roof from the truck to free the two occupants. They were transported by EMS to Wake Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Rogers and one passenger in the SUV were evaluated at the scene by EMS but declined transport to the hospital.

Police cited Mr. Sapp for failure to yield.
