Murder Charge Filed In Death Of 4 Year-Old

Dunn Police announced Monday night the arrest of a suspect on murder charges in the weekend death of a four year-old child.

Jaquaris Lemont Hines, 20, of Fayetteville has been arrested on murder charges. He is currently in the Harnett County Jail awaiting a first appearance hearing.

At 11:08am Saturday, Dunn Police responded to Betsy Johnson Hospital to a deceased child involving possible child abuse. Investigators responded to both the hospital and the residence of the child at the Dunn Village Apartments on Sawyer Circle. A search warrant was obtained and a death investigation was conducted, according to Police Chief Clark White.

As a result of the investigation, Jaquaris Hines was charged earlier today with murder. Authorities have not said how the 4 year-old died.  Hines was not the father of the child, Chief White said, rather a visitor in the home.

Chief White said the investigation was still ongoing and active. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Investigator Matos or Norris with the Criminal Investigations Section of the Dunn Police Department.
