Smithfield’s National Night Out Rescheduled For Aug. 15

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield’s annual National Night Out celebration has been rescheduled after Tuesday’s event was postponed.

The free community event will now be held Saturday, Aug. 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smithfield Community Park, located at 600 M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.

The event had originally been scheduled for Aug. 4, but organizers postponed the celebration due to inclement weather.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve while promoting crime prevention, neighborhood partnerships and public safety.

Families attending the event can enjoy free pizza, hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones. Activities will also include bounce houses, a petting zoo, interactive public safety exhibits, K-9 demonstrations and a live fire sprinkler demonstration.

Representatives from the Smithfield Police Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Smithfield Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Animal Services, Selma Police Department, Selma Fire Department, and other community organizations are expected to participate.

Organizers encourage residents of all ages to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to meet local first responders, learn about public safety, and enjoy an evening of family-friendly activities.
