Smithfield – Lennie Laverne Barbour Hughes, age 84, died late Saturday evening, March 25, 2017 in Smithfield Manor. Born November 17, 1932 in Johnston County Lennie was a daughter of the late Hubert Benjamin and Mary Caroline Johnson Barbour. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Hughes and granddaughter, Ashton; and brothers, Mellie Gene Barbour and Hubert Earl “Toady” Barbour. She attended Yelverton Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield. Lennie enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing, and watching Carolina basketball with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Ballance officiating. Burial will follow in Yelverton Grove OFWB Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Bruce and Jamie Strickland.
Surviving are her daughters, Jamie Strickland and husband Bruce of Smithfield and Ginger Rohrbaugh and husband Michael of Atlantic Beach, FL; sons, Jimmy Hughes and Timmy Hughes, both of Smithfield; brothers, Lincoln Barbour, Larry Barbour, and E.J. Barbour, all of Smithfield; sisters, Evelyn “Eve” Lassiter of Asheville, Eleanor Price of Garner, Veronica “Ronnie” Johnson of Greenville, and Freda Fail of Princeton; and grandchildren, Trey Hughes, Nicholas Rohrbaugh, Hannah Rohrbaugh, and Grant Rohrbaugh.
