Report: Deputy Finds Marijuana, Pills During NC 42 Traffic Stop

KENLY — A Johnston County deputy arrested a Garner man last week after a traffic stop led to the discovery of marijuana, prescription pills, and other drug-related items.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 1:46 p.m. on Nov. 6 when a patrol deputy stopped a Honda Accord on NC 42 East near Flower Hill Road for a traffic violation.

During the stop, the deputy reportedly detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of approximately 140 grams of suspected marijuana, oxycodone pills, drug paraphernalia, and two cell phones.

Travion Darrell Ray, 29, of Garner, was taken into custody without incident. Ray was charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ray was transported to the Johnston County Detention Center where he was held under a $17,500 secured bond.

  1. I always wonder how many times they’ve used “detecting a strong smell of marijuana” on people who don’t even smoke. I’ll go first: me, in 2012. Clayton PD pulled me on the side of 70, searched my whole car while I sat there with my two dogs on the way to the vet. Shockingly, they found nothing… and didn’t seem to care that they wasted my time or made me late for the appointment. Probably just got lucky with this guy.

  2. on the real…if u doing something illegal why would u be smoking…..thats dumb….and 80 percent of the time the dummy prolly was smoking…..I maneuverd for years and never got stopped…because I wasnt dumb
