JOHNSTON COUNTY – Two early-Saturday morning accidents resulted in heavily damaged vehicles and two being transported to the hospital.

The first accident happened on NC Highway 96 just north of Selma around 1:30am. Selma Fire and EMS responded with Highway Patrol Troopers to find a red vehicle off the roadway, on its roof.

The driver had fled the scene of the crash, leaving behind a destroyed car, cellphone, cane and handicapped placard, among other things.

A second, similar accident took place on US Highway 70 near Martin Livestock Road around 3:00am. Princeton Fire and EMS responded to find a small white car which had apparently rolled end-over-end, on its wheels, in a ditch.

That car was also found to be vacant, however, a witness reported that the two occupants had fled on foot toward Princeton.

A trooper located them nearby and returned to the scene where they requested to be checked out by EMS. The driver claimed that the car belonged to a relative. Both were transported to area hospitals to be checked out for minor injuries.

Both accidents remained under investigation.
