Wanted Person Surrenders After Standoff At Motel

A man wanted on numerous charges was arrested following a standoff with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a report 51 year-old Stephen Scott Rucker was in a room at the Super 8 motel on Leone Court at the I-40 / NC42 interchange in the Cleveland community.  Rucker was wanted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on domestic-related warrants.  Johnston County deputies arrived at the Super 8 motel around 6:00pm Friday. Rucker barricaded himself in his room and refused to exit.

Around 10:30pm, deputies peacefully took Rucker into custody without incident. Rucker was checked out at the scene by EMS before being taken to jail and served with Cumberland County warrants for first-degree arson, assault by pointing a gun, assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats.

Three fire departments stood by near the scene until the incident was cleared.
