Deputy Fires At Suspect Who Rammed Patrol Car During Pursuit

PRINCETON – The search continues for a suspect who intentionally rammed a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy during a pursuit. Around 12:30am Monday, deputies were assisting troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol in the pursuit of a stolen car.

The pursuit turned into a field in the 400 block of Fellowship Church Road near Princeton. The fleeing suspect crashed the stolen car into the side of the marked patrol car.

After his vehicle was violently struck, the sheriff’s deputy discharged his service weapon at the suspect. The suspect fled from the stolen car on foot, and at last report has not been identified or located.

No one was hit as a result of the firearm being discharged by the officer. The deputy was not injured when his cruiser was rammed.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation, which is standard procedure when an officer discharges his firearm.
