Man Accused Of Killing Son On Father’s Day

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in the 200 block of Lakeland Port, Sanford, an address just inside Harnett County.

Officers found Michael Poth, 28, dead inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.  Authorities said Monday it appears Joseph Poth, 56, shot his son in self-defense. No charges have been filed.  Authorities said it remains an active homicide investigation.

Both the father and son lived at the address.  No additional information was released.
