Bizzell was first elected in 1998 and is one of North Carolina’s most experienced county sheriffs

PRINCETON – Lifelong Johnston County resident Steve Bizzell announced Tuesday that he will seek a seventh term as Johnston County Sheriff. Bizzell was first elected in 1998 after serving under two former Sheriffs and has become one of North Carolina’s longest-serving elected county sheriffs.

“I love being Sheriff of Johnston County, and I look forward to continuing to serve as your Sheriff, to ensure that the quality of law enforcement services that our citizens have become accustomed to continues,” said Sheriff Bizzell. “I am truly blessed to have the quality of men and women who assist me everyday in carrying out the duties of the Office of Sheriff.”

Sheriff Bizzell served as President of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association (NCSA) in 2007-2008 where he represented all 100 sheriffs in the State of North Carolina. He held the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NCSA from 2008 to 2009 and continues to serve as a board member. In 2014, Sheriff Bizzell was selected by Governor Pat McCrory to serve on the Governor’s DWI Task Force and was elected by Sheriffs in District 4 to serve on the N.C. Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. In 2016, Sheriff Bizzell received the “Order of the Long Leaf Pine,” among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina. Additionally, in March of 2021 he was recognized by the Johnston County Chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, in maintaining, preserving, and protecting the lawful rights of all citizens.

“Johnston County continues to be the fastest growing county in North Carolina and I understand the number one priority of government is public safety, and we are always preparing to meet the challenges associated with this growth,” said Sheriff Bizzell.

“As sheriff, I will continue to be proactive in providing our staff with advanced training, technology, and the equipment necessary for them to be effective and efficient but more so safe, in providing public safety for our citizens. Our deputies are held to a higher standard; we will use common sense in applying the law, and treat people like we would want to be treated.”

“I will continue to work hard for the people of Johnston County, so that we can keep Johnston County a safe community to live, work, and raise our children,” said Sheriff Bizzell. “I take great pride in the accomplishments that we, working together as a team, have made over the years and look forward to the opportunity to continue the progress and serve the citizens of Johnston County as your Sheriff.”

  1. I do so agree that we have a exceptional sheriff, but is there no negative constructional criticism that could be offered here? Even with my unwavering support for Mr. Bizzell, I could expect some criticism from other’s and it not aways coming from me.

  2. Sheriff Bizzell is a good person he’s not quick on judgements I’ve personally sat in his office and talked to him he always keeps his options open my vote is already casted

  3. Ok, there it is no negative comments for Mr. Bizzell and the story has been posted for almost a week. I will now make my deep intellectual prediction that Mr. Bizzell will exceed his normal 70 % of registered voters to 80 % of registered voters to another landslide victory as long as the second coming does not happen and he decide to run for Johnston County Sheriff. It’s seems we all ready have a Sheriff that can walk on water to begin with.
